Algebra 2 Problem Solver
Algebra 2 Problem Solver Algebra problem solver involves application of linear equations on real life. We use linear equation, an integral part of arithmetic, during our day today life. In real, we express the situation in terms of words. These words can be translated in terms of mathematics. For example, Sally wants to divide six chocolates among 3 childrens. Effortlessly we can say each child gets 2 chocolates. But this can be expressed in mathematical form as 6/3 = 2. The following examples show the use of linear equation in real world situations. Example 1:- After 8 years, Amir will be 3 times as old as he is now. Find present age. Solution 1:- Assume, Present age of Amir = x After 8 years Amir Age= x + 8 It is clearly given in the problem, After 8 years Amir Age will be 3 times of his present age = 3x Therefore, x + 8 = 3x 8 = 3x x 8 = 2x x = 4 Hence obtained, the present age of Amir is 4 Example 2:- A student bought some pens at $8 each and some pencils at $1.50 each. If the total number of pens and pencils purchased is 16 and their total cost is $50, how many pens did he buy? Solution 2:- From the problem we know Total number of pen and pencils purchased = 16 Let the number of pens bought = x Pens Pencils Total Number x (Assume) 16 -x 16 Cost 8x 1.50( 16 x) 8x + 1.50(16 x) According to the given condition, total cost is $50 So, we get 8x + 1.50(16 x) = 50 8x + 24 1.50 x = 50 (combining like terms) 6.50 x = 50 -24 x = 26/6.50 x = 2600/65 = 4 Therefore, Number of pens = 4 Number of pencils = (16 x) = 16 4 = 12
